Mount St. Helens Monitor Ridge: A Relentless, Awe-Inspiring Journey to the Crater’s Edge

    August 15, 2025 / No Comments

In July 2025, three of us set out to reach the crater rim of Mount St. Helens — the iconic volcano in Washington State that last erupted in 1980. We chose the Monitor Ridge route, a challenging 10-mile round trip that gains roughly 4,500 feet of elevation. Our goal? To stand at 8,366 feet, peer into the massive Mount St. Helens crater, and soak in sweeping views of the Cascade Range. Bob filmed the entire climb and I turned it into a YouTube video filled with trail tips and honest observations.. If you want to see the route in action, you can watch it here. On May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helens…

Mural Lovers Guide to Phuket Street Art: The Complete Walking Tour and Interactive Map

    June 16, 2025 / No Comments

If you know me, you know I love street art. It started in Puerto Vallarta several years ago just taking pictures here and there, but Phuket street art took it to a whole new level. Phuket’s street art scene really began to blossom in the mid-2010s, with public art initiatives like the F.A.T. Project (Food Art Town) encouraging local and international artists to paint vibrant, large-scale murals across Old Town. The goal was to bring more color and creativity to the city while celebrating its heritage and culture. Over time, mural hunting has become one of the best ways to explore this historic district—and that’s exactly what I set out…

Thailand Trip – Our 18 Day Treasures of Thailand Itinerary

    September 15, 2024 / No Comments

In July 2024. we took Trafalgar’s Treasures of Thailand tour with the Phuket extension. The tour was amazing and I’ll be writing some posts with more details and photos. In the meantime, here’s our complete Thailand trip itinerary along with Relive videos for everyday I was able to make them (fun fact, Relive does not work on a plane – which makes sense but I tried anyway). The Thailand trip was wonderful and it’s true, Thailand is the land of smiles.. This was my first guided tour; I wasn’t sure I’d like it but I loved it. Our guide was a local and answered all my questions about Thai culture,…

Meals on the Camino de Santiago in 60 Seconds

    December 20, 2023 / No Comments

We get lots of questions about the meals on the Camino de Santiago (Camino Frances) – we’ve collected meal highlights in this 60 second video. The video shows meals in order starting in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port all the way to Santiago de Compostela. On our Camino, We ate mostly pilgrim meals – a few were outstanding, most were good. We ate lunch at cafes and bars as we walked through the small towns on the Camino. Because we are early risers, we normally had breakfast (cafe con Leche and a Napolitanas) in the first town with an open cafe. Breakfast meals before 8:00 AM are hard to find on the Camino. We…

Mushroom foraging in Olympia’s Tolmie State Park

    October 23, 2023 / No Comments

2023 has been a tremendous fall for mushroom foraging in Olympia and the south Puget Sound area. With that in mind, I headed to our favorite state park to capture as many varieties as possible. Not only was this a fun and different way to explore a familiar trail it also gave me an excuse to walk slowly and enjoy a beautiful fall day. While my fascination with mushrooms is high, I have not yet worked up the courage and confidence to collect mushrooms for eating. For now, I am more than content to do all my foraging with my camera. Tolmie State Park, located in the heart of the…

The Camino de Santiago: Why Pushing Yourself Matters

    October 22, 2023 / No Comments

The Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James, is an ancient pilgrimage route that spans across Spain and leads to the shrine of the apostle St. James in Santiago de Compostela. Over the years, it has gained popularity not only as a religious journey but also as a remarkable physical and spiritual experience for people from all walks of life. One crucial aspect of this pilgrimage is the choice you make in how you traverse its rugged terrain: Will you push yourself by carrying your own pack and tackling the difficult parts, or will you opt for an easier route via taxis, buses, or other shortcuts?…
