Mural Lovers Guide to Phuket Street Art: The Complete Walking Tour and Interactive Map

If you know me, you know I love street art. It started in Puerto Vallarta several years ago just taking pictures here and there, but Phuket street art took it to a whole new level. Phuket’s street art scene really began to blossom in the mid-2010s, with public art initiatives like the F.A.T. Project (Food Art Town) encouraging local and international artists to paint vibrant, large-scale murals across Old Town. The goal was to bring more color and creativity to the city while celebrating its heritage and culture. Over time, mural hunting has become one of the best ways to explore this historic district—and that’s exactly what I set out to do.

What began as a list of a few murals I’d seen online quickly turned into a full-blown mission. I spent days wandering the streets of Old Town Phuket—sometimes doubling back or stopping mid-walk—just to find one more splash of color tucked behind a corner or above a noodle shop. One mural, the Red Tortoise Mardi by Alex Face took me days to find due a building that popped up over the original site (thankfully that beautiful mural was preserved inside the new building).

This blog post pairs with a new YouTube video I recently posted that captures the full walking tour. You can check it out here:

My Top 5 Phuket Street Art Murals

The map will take you to 37 beautiful murals in and around Phuket Old Town. If you are short on time for chasing murals here are my top 5 that are worth your time to locate. These five stood out for their artistry, storytelling, and the joy they sparked during my walks through Old Town Phuket.

1. Mardi in Baba Dress by Alex Face

I’m a big fan of Alex Face’s signature Mardi character, and while the famous Red Tortoise Mardi was partially hidden by construction when I visited, Mardi in Baba Dress stole the spotlight. I especially loved the playful photo op—try pretending to grab one of the baht notes falling from her basket!

2. Mee Pad Hokkien by Three Prang Mural Art

My love of food-themed murals runs deep, and this one is pure elegance. From the colors to the line work, it beautifully captures a local Phuket favorite: Hokkien stir-fried noodles. A delicious tribute in more ways than one.

3. ‘Uncle’ and ‘Auntie’ Selling O-Taw by Pichit Paidan

Even though it’s starting to fade, this mural remains a Phuket classic. It portrays Hokkien settlers preparing O-Taw, a beloved local oyster dish, with care and community spirit. The vintage vibe adds to its charm—I just hope it gets a fresh coat someday.

4. Lady in Blue (Artist Unknown)

Elegant and inviting, this mural is a hidden gem tucked inside a Ratsada Road restaurant. Pull up a chair and it looks like you’re having tea with the lady herself. Another great spot for a fun, Instagram-worthy photo.

5. Tawatchyont Bike Shop by 4StudioPhuket

This mural is cleverly arranged around the old garage door of a former bike shop and tells a layered story—look closely and you’ll spot a boy pumping up his bicycle tires, and a girl on a motorbike with her dog. It’s a nostalgic glimpse into Old Town life and one of my favorite mural discoveries.

More from Thailand Coming Soon

We first visited Phuket as part of our Trafalgar Treasures of Thailand tour in July 2024, which included Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and a relaxing extension in Phuket. While that trip introduced us to the charm of Old Town, we didn’t have time for mural hunting. Fast forward to February 2025, when we returned to Thailand for six weeks and made Phuket our home base for one week —this time with murals on the mind. Armed with GPS pins, blog tips, and a love of street art, we set out to find as many murals as we could in Old Town and beyond.
